FOR SCHOOLS

The 35th Rotary National Science and Technology Forum will take place in Auckland from 11th to 25th January 2025.

This page provides New Zealand secondary schools with information on how to help promote the Forum and aid their students in the application process.

Application and Selection Process

  • The Rotary National Science and Technology Forum administration will email schools with links to the Forum website and relevant documents. These will include letters for the principal and Head of Science, Math or Technology, detailing how they can support the Forum and promote it to students.
  • Schools will identify and encourage students with a strong interest and ability in science and technology to complete an application.
  • The Head of Science, Math or Technology, or the Principal, will need to complete a letter outlining their reasons for supporting the student’s application. The school can decide whether to provide financial support towards the Forum fee.
  • Students will submit their school’s letter of recommendation, along with other required documents, to the Forum.
  • The student’s local Rotary Club, or the Rotary Club supporting the school, will receive an application package and will interview applicants.

Testimonials

Hear what others have to say

“We encourage our students to attend this program because although we have a great Polytech in Southland, we don’t have a university and it gives those lucky enough to attend an experience, on campus, that they just can’t get in Invercargill.”

Heather Petelo, James Hargest College (Head of Science)

“For several years, Sacred Heart students have attended the forum and called it the best experience of their lives… I wish all my students could experience the Rotary Science & Technology Forum.”

Mrs Anna Mortiaux, Sacred Heart College Auckland (Teacher)

“I cannot speak highly enough of my son’s experience at the Rotary Forum 2024. The Forum gave him the opportunity to experience many facets of Science, Math, and Technology in a tertiary setting, and gain insight into university life and staying in the halls. He thoroughly enjoyed the academic and practical aspects of the Forum, but it was the social experience and networking opportunities that were most beneficial. Being around like-minded individuals, many of whom he remains connected to, cemented a decision to study Biomedical Science at Auckland University next year. I would like to thank Enrico and the Forum organisers, staff and volunteers for the mahi they put into providing an amazing opportunity for year 12 tauira.”

Mrs Lee Martin (Parent)

Frequently Asked Questions

How can schools support their students in applying for the forum?

Schools can support their students by promoting the forum, identifying eligible students, and providing letters of recommendation from the Head of Science or Principal.

What is the application process for students?

Students need to complete four parts of the application: an online Application Base Data Form, an Application Supplementary Information Form, an Applicant and Parent/Guardian Declaration Form, and submit these along with two supporting letters to the local Rotary Club President by 23 August 2024.

What role do schools play in the selection process?

Schools recommend students who have a strong interest and ability in science, mathematics, and technology. They also provide a recommendation letter as part of the application package. Rotary Clubs then interview the students and make final selections.

What financial considerations should schools be aware of?

The registration fee is $2,395.00, which includes all meals, accommodation, and transport (if more than 150 km from Auckland). Schools may consider providing financial support or assisting students in finding other financial assistance if Rotary Clubs do not fully sponsor the fee.
